Dear Friend,

As chairman of the Connecticut Rural Development Council (CRDC), it gives me great pleasure to announce our newest project: the Connecticut Community Assessment Program.  Based on similar successful programs run by other rural development councils around the country, it is designed to assist Connecticut’s small and rural towns in meeting the many challenges which face them.

At no cost, the CRDC will provide resource teams of public and private sector professionals with expertise relevant to your community’s needs.  Trained facilitators will conduct stakeholder meetings with involvement from interested constituents.  These meetings will help in identifying your town’s assets and challenges as well as priorities for action.  The resource team will help you develop recommendations and provide connections to resources you need to get the job done, including potential sources of funding.

Please take the time to read the Community Assessment report and application available on this website.

Two communities will be selected for the first round of Assessments.  Please note the application deadline is February 9, 2006.

I’d like to thank Senate President Pro Tempore Donald Williams and the State of Connecticut, Office of Policy & Management for providing the grant money to help make this program possible.

Should you have questions, please call Linda Parquette, (860) 928-3915 or Jim Leahy, (860) 656-6615.

Sincerely yours,

Craig Stevenson, Chairman
